How can we help you?

Ingrown Toenails

Ingrown toenails can be acute or chronic. Both types of ingrown toenails are generally treated gently and successfully by our podiatrists. Here are the main differences:

Acute ingrown toenails are usually caused by incorrect cutting or ripping of the toenail, leading to a piece of nail penetrating the skin and causing infection. Acute ingrown toenails are often very painful, red, hot & swollen and the lightest of pressure from shoes or sheets can cause extreme discomfort. If you have an acute ingrown toenail it is best to put Betadine or saline on it regularly and see one of our podiatrists at your earliest convenience. Acute ingrown toenails usually resolve quickly once removed however can require antibiotics, a local anaesthetic or surgery.

Chronic ingrown toenails are often experienced when the nail is thickened, damaged or misshapen, which can be caused by a multitude of factors including trauma. Recurrent ingrown nails usually cause discomfort when the nail becomes long and therefore require ongoing and regular management. Our Podiatrists are highly trained in the non-surgical and surgical removal of ingrown toenails.

Other Toenail Problems

Thickened, fungal, discoloured and lost toenails can be concerning at least and painful and dangerous at worst. Our podiatrists are highly skilled in the management of all toenail problems.

Corns & Callous

Dead skin builds up in areas of high pressure and friction and can cause pain or discomfort when it becomes too thick. Here are the main differences:

Corns are the result of a pin-point area of pressure and friction that creates a core of hard skin and often has a layer of callous over the top. Corns are often caused by ill-fitting footwear and biomechanical abnormality and therefore will often grow back. Direct pressure will cause pain. The core can be removed painlessly by one of our podiatrists and immediate relief will be felt.

Callous is usually a result of diffuse pressure and are often uncomfortable but not painful. If a callous is not removed

Warts / Verrucae

Verrucae are harmless but can be uncomfortable and painful if they develop on a weight bearing part of the foot. In addition callus can form over the top of the verruca, increasing the discomfort in this area. There are also some strains of the virus that spread very quickly and can look unsightly.

Kids

We love our young patients! We are always very responsive and compassionate towards every patients needs and fears. Going to a Doctor to get something sore assessed is scary to say the least, so we take the time to discuss the treatment options for the most effective and efficient outcomes.

NAIL PAINTING:

Please note we do not paint nails. Unfortunately nail salons can look clean, however they are not all undertaking the required sterilisation process to ensure all fungal and bloodbourne infections are eliminated. We recommend using a home nail painting kit consisting of an under coat, colour and top coat to ensure your nails are looking, feeling and functioning germ-free!
